Worry is Atheism
I was reading a devotional this morning and it ministered to me so much that I wanted to share it with you. This devotional was by E. Stanley Jones- an amazing writer that Marilyn Hickey told me about years ago. In the devotional he was talking about worry and how that worry is atheism. He used an illustration of Martin Luther and his wife. One day Martin Luther was worrying and was very discouraged, and when his wife saw this, she went and put a black dress on. When she came out with the black dress on he asked her “What are you doing? Why are you wearing that black dress?” She answered him “Well, because God must be dead”. What she was doing was reminding him that God isn’t dead and that he should never leave Him out of the equation. In Matthew 6 Jesus tells us how to face each day-in complete trust in Him that He will take care of us. If He cares for the birds and the flowers who are here today and gone tomorrow, how much more will He take care of us? As you face everyday of this new year, don’t leave God out of the equation. Don’t worry about today, cast your care on Him and trust in HIm. Face your future in faith. Live in the now. Enjoy today and watch and see what God is going to do in you, with you and through you this entire year.

I cannot tell you how much this spoke to me today…I get caught up in a lot of anxiety and it’s really something I have struggled with since I was little. I was actually on the website today because I was in the midst of worrying about something that is completely out of my control. Thank you for reminding me that God is in control and that He cares about even the smallest details of our life. My husband and I truly appreciate you as a pastor and feel very blessed to have found Church on the Rock.
